What I love about Deephaven Academy…

I love everything about our school and I especially love the joy, laughter and love of learning that I get to witness on the faces of our students and my colleagues every day. I am so grateful for my experience at Deephaven Academy! I get to watch children learn and grow and discover who they are and how they can best share their unique gifts with the world around them. Together, with the families of our students, we have created an environment where children feel challenged, nurtured, loved, respected and safe; we are all free to be ourselves; we support one another in our growth and learning and we have so much fun doing it!

Info

I believe that each child deserves to be treated as the unique individual she or he is. With an emphasis on small classroom sizes; building strong and supportive relationships between teachers, students, and families; attention to creating a learning environment that provides the greatest amount of support for each individual; striving to provide a highly challenging and engaging academic curriculum and working each and every day on developing strong and effective social and life skills; in addition to fostering a love of learning and excitement about the world that we live in, all of these pieces come together to create a very special program. One in which all members of the community have a voice and feel respected, safe and inspired to be their best.

For me, fun is…

Spending time with my family and friends, my work as a teacher and director of education, spending time each day with the lovely children at our school and working with my colleagues and the families at Deephaven Academy, traveling, being outdoors, reading and exploring the world.

What I love about Deephaven Academy. . .

“The laughter and the excitement the students bring every day. They arrive at school with incredible smiles anticipating our day and at the end of each day, they are still smiling. I love that the students have a genuine curiosity about each day’s activities. I enjoy my colleagues and the support from our parents.”

Info

I believe a teacher cannot engage the student academically without first building their self-esteem and their sense of confidence.  Each child is a unique individual who has to learn many new aspects of being part of our community. Each student needs to feel they are in a safe environment where they know they are cared for, nurtured and supported in their creative ideas, to be able to express their wants and needs in positive ways, and to be able to develop scholastically. I believe that children should be allowed to make reasonable mistakes. In my classroom our philosophy is “mistakes are alright, because we have to learn from our mistakes.” The students are held accountable to correct their mistakes and find solutions independently or with guided help by the teacher.

For me, fun is. . .

Being with my family, traveling, playing with my grandchildren, reading, walking, winter snow skiing, taking care of my horses, and boating on the lake.

What I love about Deephaven Academy…

To me, Deephaven Academy embodies everything a school should be. When we started this school, we did so with the vision in mind that each student would be celebrated for the individual that they are and would develop both a love of learning and a strong belief in their capabilities. That is exactly what we have accomplished. Each day we work as a team to educate our students in an environment where they feel nurtured and supported. This, combined with endless enjoyable learning experiences and a lot of laughter, results in a safe, fun, extremely productive learning environment. What’s not to love about that?

Info

In my eyes, each child brings a unique and important element to our school. Every child is gifted in some way. I believe that the social curriculum our school offers is just as important as the academic one. I believe in fostering a warm and loving classroom environment while holding my students to the individual expectations I have for them. In my classroom, I work tirelessly to promote an environment of mutual respect, hard work, love, and pride in doing the best work possible.

For me, fun is…

Being with my students, teaching, spending time with my family (pets included!) and friends, taking care of people, trying new restaurants, and seeing our school grow

What I love about Deephaven Academy…

The caring and safe environment that is created by the teachers, parents and the students themselves… I love listening to the laughing and kind statements I hear so often in class and in the hallways.

Info

I believe that students are unique and have their own style of learning and need a fun, supportive and challenging environment to thrive in. I also believe in holding students accountable for their actions and I like to learn from them. I feel at Deephaven we provide the environment needed for each of our wonderful students to succeed.

For me, fun is…

Traveling, learning new things, long boarding, collecting sneakers, spending time with my loved ones and laughing often
